Intelligence Report: The AI Citation Hierarchy
AI engines do not crawl the internet equally. They have massive, systemic preferences for certain domains that have spent decades building trust, structure, and independent validation. Lantern’s February 2026 report analyzed 200 million citations; the results define the "Citation Graph" you need to win.

The DNA of a Cited Domain
Every domain in the top 10 shares three non-negotiable characteristics:
- Independence: AI engines favor "earned" claims (Third-party reviews, peer threads) over "owned" claims (Brand blogs).
- Structure: Domains that provide transcripts (YouTube) or structured data fields (G2) reduce extraction friction.
- Historical Weight: Domains like Slashdot (est. 1997) have a compounding trust layer that newer sites cannot buy.
Strategic Pivot: Cross-Platform Entity Recognition
Brands appearing on 4+ of these trusted platforms are 2.8x more likely to appear in ChatGPT responses. AI search is not about your website anymore; it's about your "Entity Footprint" across the platforms the models already trust.
Ramon's Strategic Perspective
Look at this list. What do you see? None of these are brand homepages. This is the biggest wake-up call for my clients in Africa and globally. AI search is a game of 'Third-Party Validation.' If you are spending all your budget on your own blog but zero on your G2 profile, YouTube transcripts, or Reddit presence, you're fighting the AI citation engine with one hand tied behind your back. My strategy: We build 'Satellite Authority' first. Stop trying to force people to your site; make the AI cite you from the sites it already implicitly trusts. That's how we own the narrative in 2026.
